Guys!!! I can’t believe I have a 6 month old baby! I remember this time last year I was three months pregnant and being so excited that I would have a 6 month old for Christmas….. I just can’t believe how fast time has gone. I still remember the newborn days like they were yesterday and I am so happy to be out of that time period. I haven’t shared an update on here in a while, so I thought I would bring you guys up to speed.
Now that we have a few months under our belts, I have started to worry less. He’s growing well and hitting all of his milestones and every day that goes by is better than the last. He’s all smiles, and loves to giggle. Although I say he is a tough crowd because more often than not, he’ll give us a light chuckle, but when we do get that full on giggle, it is a glorious sound and he laughs so hard, he cries. His personality is starting to come out too, and all I can say, is that I am going to have my hands full. He is already showing signs of being very determined and extremely decisive. He is either all about it, or not about it at all. He very rarely cries; it’s not his chosen form of communication, but he is a very
loud I mean Vocal and animated, he definitely gets that from me.. At least he gets something from me, right. Because as you can see from the pictures this kid looks nothing like me. I always kid that people must think I am the nanny.
At around 4 months, I decided it was time to get him on an actual (lose) schedule vs. following his cues. I think this helped with his temperment tremendously. If you want I can go into his schedule in more detail, but essentially his schedule starts at wake time 7am and we live in 3 hour windows…. Eat 1hour, Play 1 hour, Sleep 1 hour, repeat. That makes his feeding times, 7am, 10am 1pm, 4pm, last feed 7pm.. Again, this is a lose schedule, so if his early and mid day nap go longer I don’t wake him (unless he reaches the two hour mark), and if he misses a feeding I just increase his ounces on the remainder of the feedings.
He currently takes in anywhere from 30-35 ounces by bottle, and snacks (nurses) 2-3 times a day, usually close to nap time. 12 of those ounces are formula, talk about mom guilt, but I just couldn’t keep up. He responded well to the formula I have him on, but I also break it up to help with digestion. He gets the formula at his 10am and 4pm feeding. He started solids around 5.5 months and so far I am able to make all of his food since were still introducing single ingredients. I alternate between fruits & veggies every other introduction. So far, he’s eaten everything. Although I thought he was gonna reject avocado which would of broke my Mexican heart, but I tried it again and put it in his munchkin mesh feeder and he happily ate it.
I wrote a little about the sleep training we did around 4.5 months after experiencing a few weeks of pure misery. He responded well it and has been sleeping through the night. He goes down at 7pm and doesn’t come out of the crib until 7ish. He is still waking at 2ish and 5ish, but he just fusses and puts himself back to sleep with in a few minutes. He will sometimes wake around 6:30ish, but will happily lay in his crib until about 7. We call him the boss baby, because we swear he has a watch in his room because right at 7 he starts to really get annoyed he’s still in the crib.
He’s sitting up (still a little wobbly) and grabbing for everything with in reach, including my hair, and glasses. (Which is why I decided I am getting Lasik ASAP). He started fully holding his own bottle a few weeks ago (AMEN) and If you follow me on Instagram then you already know I had to buy him a huge ugly foam mat because he is SO close to crawling. He is currently using his forearms to drag himself across the floor, but It’s crazy how fast they improve, todays he was attempting to lift his tush in the air so I imagine he’ll be full on crawling within a few weeks.
I try to socialize him with other kids his age any chance I get so I am constantly looking for new groups/classes to join. I like to think he enjoys them, but I think I enjoy them more. LOL. So far we’ve done Baby Sign Language. He would just stare at the teacher and the other kids. I attribute this class to getting him to love tummy time. I would lay him on his tummy on the mat and he would just watch the other kids and after a few classes he was trying to do what they were doing. Last week we started a music class which he absolutely loved! I really didn’t know what to expect, but it ended up being a class that encourages motor skills through music, so I think we are going to continue with it.
He’s been teething like crazy and recently I discovered he is actually starting to cut a tooth! Nothing seems to satisfy the urge to chew so I recently made him boobsicles (breast milk ice cubes) and started freezing his gel teethers and that seems to make him happy. He also loves his little banana.
Over all, he has turned into such an easy baby and I am amazed at how much he changes every day. I swear every morning I get him out of bed, he looks just a bit different. Pete always tells me I am nuts, but I swear I he does. He is always happy and loves to smile at strangers, I hope this doesn’t change in the upcoming months. Make sure and follow me on Instagram if you want to keep up with this little fella. I share him in my stories a lot, I might over share him actually.
